About All Stars Cricket
All Stars Cricket was a initiative from the England and Wales Cricket Board which aimed at providing children aged five to eight with a great first experience in cricket.
Albrighton Cricket Club has been an All Stars Centre since 2017 with Helen Hurford and Karyn Shimmons being trained as All Star Activators. The programme featured:
- Coaching for all children aged five to eight
- Eight one-hour sessions, held over eight weeks
- Emphasis on fun and being active
- Focus on developing your child's movement skills
- Great first introduction to cricket
- Safe and fully accredited
- Valuable time with your kids – mums and dads are encouraged to take part too
To be an All Stars member each child registers online at Albrighton Cricket Club All Stars Registration and pays £40 direct to the ECB, the club received £5 from the ECB for every child that signed up for the All Stars Programme at their centre. Every child that registered received a backpack full of goodies including a cricket bat, ball, water bottle, personalised shirt and cap which was all sent straight to their door.
The ECB are running the programme again for 2019 which will be again £40 per child paid direct to the ECB. This year the club will ask for Parents/Guardians who register their child for the All Stars Programme through the ECB also sign up to the club's Parent/Guardian Membership of £10.00, this is a one off payment to the club and not per child.
All Stars will receive eight one hour sessions held over eight weeks, these sessions start in May, however we have a Junior Registration Night on Friday 12th April 6.30pm at the club and our junior training nights start on Friday 26th April, 6.30pm - 7.30pm for 5 - 8 year old where we coach 'All Stars' and 'Crickets' together as one. 8 year olds and upwards start training at 7pm and train until the light fades. The All Stars sessions are led by Karyn Shimmons and Helen Hurford who both have run the 'All Stars' & 'Crickets' sessions together for the last 4 - 5 years, they too have so much fun coaching the children the fundamentals of cricket.
Junior training runs from 26th April right up to the school summer holidays and sometimes runs into the holidays for a couple of weeks, depending on numbers and coaches availability.
On warmer nights there will be a BBQ going providing tea at a reasonable price and the bar is open to enjoy a relaxing glass of beer, wine or gin to end the week, while the children are enjoying themselves out on the field.
